About Kanarieliv – My Love for Gran Canaria

My name is Henrik Ohlén, and I run Kanarieliv.

From my very first visit to Gran Canaria, I fell in love with the island. The atmosphere, the people, the climate and the lifestyle made a lasting impression on me – and with every visit, my love for Gran Canaria has only grown stronger.

But the more time I spent on the island, the more I also began to see Gran Canaria from a different perspective – not only as a tourist.

Behind the beaches, hotels and holiday lifestyle are people who live, work and are trying to build a future here. Many local business owners work incredibly hard while facing challenges related to the economy, employment, housing and competition.

That made me ask myself one simple question:

Is there something I can do to help?

From an Idea to Kanarieliv

I noticed that many small local businesses offer fantastic services but do not always have the same opportunities or experience when it comes to reaching customers online and through social media.

That is why I started creating Facebook groups where visitors and people interested in Gran Canaria could find useful information, while at the same time giving local businesses an opportunity to reach more potential customers.

The next step was to establish partnerships with local businesses and help promote their services to our visitors.

That was the beginning of Kanarieliv.

An important part of the original idea behind Kanarieliv is to work with local businesses and service providers.

When you book a service through us, you are not only helping Kanarieliv continue to develop – you are also helping generate business for companies and people who live and work on Gran Canaria.

For some of the services I help arrange, I receive a small commission. This money helps cover the costs of running the websites, telephone expenses, administration and continued development.

In this way, the project can continue to grow.

We work with professional and responsible local operators and clearly distance ourselves from illegal passenger transport, commonly known as pirate taxis, and other services operating without the necessary licences or permits.

Kanarieliv is a project that is constantly developing. I regularly try to add new services, partnerships, information and ideas.

I have chosen to do much of the work myself. This allows me to keep costs down while also giving me the flexibility to update information and develop the websites quickly.

That is why it means so much when you share Kanarieliv, recommend us to others and use the services we help provide.

The more people who discover us, the greater our opportunity to continue developing the project and create even more partnerships with local businesses.

So, What Is Kanarieliv Really About?

For me, the answer is simple:

Kanarieliv is my love for Gran Canaria and the Canary Islands – combined with a desire to do something positive for the people and businesses that call these islands home.

It may not change the whole of Gran Canaria.

But if together we can help a few local businesses gain more customers, help visitors find professional and reliable services, and at the same time share knowledge and our love for the island – then Kanarieliv has achieved something worthwhile.
